HomeIdeaGarden was founded in 2019 by garden designer Eleanor Whitfield as a working designer's response to a frustration: most garden content online is written by people who have never planted a border, drawn a plan, or watched a planting scheme mature over five seasons.

We publish reference-quality guides on landscape design, planting, sustainable gardening and outdoor living. Every article is written or edited by a working garden designer, fact-checked against primary horticultural sources, and updated when the evidence changes.

Six sections form the backbone of the publication: Landscape Design, Small Garden Ideas, Sustainable Gardening, Container & Balcony Gardens, Garden Styles & Themes, and Plants & Planting Design.

Our editorial team is led by Eleanor Whitfield, a Royal Horticultural Society-trained garden designer with twelve years of professional practice. Read more about her work on her author page.

How we work

Every guide we publish goes through a four-stage process: research from peer-reviewed horticultural sources and trade literature; first draft by a designer with field experience in the subject; editorial review against our editorial policy and fact-checking policy; and a publication date stamp that we update whenever the underlying evidence shifts.

How we fund the publication

HomeIdeaGarden is funded by a mix of display advertising, affiliate partnerships with garden tool and plant retailers, and reader-supported editorial sponsorships.
